Vampire Bat

This is a personal piece I’ve been working on between jobs. With project gaps becoming a little longer lately, I finally had the time to bring it to completion.

Sometimes with personal projects, it’s hard to know when to stop and move on, because you keep refining, finding small improvements, and every time you think it’s finished, you spot something else. But at some point, it’s better to move on and apply what you’ve learned to your next project. So, no more delays — it’s time to release the bat.

Modelled in ZBrush and Maya, textured in Mari, with fur created in XGen. The splashes were simulated in RealFlow, with compositing in Nuke and final grading in Photoshop.
